NAGPUR: Citizens are expected to get some respite from the soaring heat as light rains are expected to hit Nagpur this week. As per the forecast issued by Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, few spells of thunder showers with strong gusty winds are expected between April 21-23 in the city and some parts of Vidarbha.

For the second consecutive day on Tuesday, the city recorded the season’s highest temperature of 43.6 degree Celsius, which is nearly three degrees more than the normal mercury levels. Akola and Chandrapur were the hottest in the region, boiling at 44.8 degree Celsius.

On Tuesday, all districts of Vidarbha were either 40 or more than 40 degree Celsius.

The citizens are currently reeling under heatwave, with the city’s maximum temperature fluctuating between 40-44 degree Celsius.

According to El Dorado weather website, Akola, Chandrapur, Wardha and Bramhapuri were the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth hottest cities in the world respectively on Tuesday. The met department has issued heatwave warnings for different parts of Vidarbha till April 22.

The met department has also issued a heatwave advisory, asking citizens to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours. “If outside, cover your head using a cloth, hat or umbrella. Take special care of the elderly, children, sick or overweight, as they are more likely to become victims of excessive heat. Also, traditional remedies like onion salad and raw mango with salt and cumin can prevent heat stroke,” the advisory added.
