Nagpur: Nine kgs gold worth Rs 5.4 crore recovered from two suspected gold smugglers from Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express

PUNE: The railway protection force (RPF) on October 12, recovered around 9kgs of gold worth Rs 5.4 crore from Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express at the Nagpur railway station.

According to officials, after the train left the Howrah station, a message was received by RPF Nagpur post from a source regarding smuggled gold taking the train route. The matter was conveyed to se IIT officers and a special team consisting of 8 RPF personnel along with 3 Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers was formed.

The team searched the above train and identified 2 suspect passengers- Rahul and Baluram, both of Nagpur, seated on berth no. 28 and 24 in S-4 coach with 2 bags which was having gold biscuits. They were detained at Nagpur railway station on platform no. 8 with the help of duty staff of RPF Post and were taken to DRI office for further legal action.

The recovered gold metal was confiscated by DRI officials. Officials said that investigations was in progress and search is on for arresting other accomplices involved.
