NAGPUR: Amravati divisonal board clocked a career-best pass percentage of 96.81% in the SSC results declared on Friday. The division was slightly behind Nagpur which too registered the highest ever 97% pass rate.
While on paper, 2021 was the best ever year for every divisional board in Maharashtra, many academics are keeping 2022 as their benchmark. A principal said, “In 2021, not even a single board exam was held due to Covid. Marks were given on internal assessments so obviously everyone passed, almost.”
Maharashtra state back then had registered over 99% passing rate. But with state board deciding to return to the traditional format of board exams in 2022, academics feel Amravati’s performance is noteworthy.
Washim district turned out to the best performer with a staggering 97.62% pass rate, which helped the division edge higher in rankings. It was followed by Buldhana that clocked 97.16% pass rate, again the highest. The last district in Amravati division that managed to float above the 97% mark was Akola (97.4%).
Amravati, the divisional headquarters was at 96.39%. A board official said, “Amravati also includes Melghat which is one of the most backward areas in the region. This has an impact on education too. And with pandemic shutting off access to offline classes for months on end, kids suffered. Here in rural areas you don’t have kids with mobile phones or laptops and high speed internet. So their studies got impacted.”
In HSC too, Amravati division performed well by snatching the number three spot in the state, just one behind Nagpur.
Divya Gurbani, a senior academic from Vidarbha, said that the performance of the region must not be viewed as a result of lenient marking. “I take strong exception to any such remarks. All evaluators and moderators did their job in a fair and transparent manner. The good result is due to the hard work of students and teachers,” said Gurbani.
