Naga Munchetty shares cheap heatwave hack using nothing but a towel and water

Maga Munchetty has shared her top tip for keeping cool in the summer heat – just as the UK boils in a heatwave.

The 46-year-old BBC presenter and broadcaster gave some great advice while hosting her Radio 5 Live morning show on Monday.

Record breaking temperatures have been recorded across the UK, while millions working from home are trapped indoors toiling away as the sun beats down through windows.

Fortunately, Naga shared her secret to keeping cool amid the rising temperatures – and fortunately it is an easy and cheap life hack that everyone will be able to test out.

Speaking to a caller on Monday, Naga said: “If you’ve got any kitchen roll or a thin muslin tea towel, dip that in cold water, wring it out, and just have that wrapped around your neck. It really helps.”

The star went on to declare she is a champion sweater – as she confessed she too is sweltering in the heat.

She declared: “I sweat for England. Its’ good. It’s something I used to get embarrassed about it but a gym instructor said to me ‘it’s just your body is very efficient’ so I’m no longer embarrassed about it – but I do sweat.”

“And I find that [using a damp tea towel] helps.”

Naga shared her advice while speaking to a caller from Worthing who was working at home in her kitchen – making jam.

The process of making jam involves boiling ingredients over a hot stove or cooker – with temperatures required to hit boiling point.

Describing her kitchen, the caller said: “It’s about 24 degrees in there at the moment, which is nice and cool.

“But jam sets about about 103 to 105 degrees. So when you’ve got a few of those [pots full of jam] boiling away, it can get quite hot.”

The UK is basking in a heatwave that is expected to last though to the weekend.

England is predicted to reach temperatures 27-29 and reaching the early 30s at the beginning of the week.

While temperatures in Northern Ireland and Scotland will be between 18-25 degrees.

While Northern Ireland had the highest recorded temperature on Saturday where the mercury hit 31.2 degrees.

The Met Office says the beginning of the week will be mostly hot and sunny – with cooler temperatures in the north of the UK due to cloud cover.

While Monday is mostly sun covered, Tuesday’s weather forecast states: “Another mostly sunny and hot day, with higher temperatures extending further north into Northern Ireland and southern Scotland. Cloudier far north. Risk of a thunderstorm in south later.”

While the forecast for the second half of the week states: “Fine and dry for most, just the odd isolated afternoon shower. Very warm, locally hot, although northeast coasts will be cooler. More widespread showers will reach the southwest on Friday.”
