Naga Munchetty's dignified response to 'horrible' comment about her BBC Radio 5 Live debut

Naga Munchetty was thrilled to make her debut as the host of the mid-morning programme on BBC Radio 5 Live, but she ended up clapping back at a follower who disapproved of her new role.

The BBC Breakfast presenter, 45, who has replaced Emma Barnett in the slot, gave a dignified response after one Twitter user made an insulting comment after she shared her excitement before her first day.

Naga wrote: "1st day in a new job @bbc5live tomorrow. 10am to 1pm.

"I get to work with a brilliant team and discuss the stuff in our lives that matter with great guests and listeners. Can. Not. Wait. Hope you can join us. X"

The follower replied: "Rather poke needles in my eyes than listen to you."

And Naga responded with a kiss: "That's dangerous June. I also think it will hurt. X"

Naga joined the BBC in 2008 and became a lead presenter on BBC Breakfast, filmed at MediaCityUK in Salford, in 2014.

Other followers jumped to her defence.

"Chill out," they told the troll.

"You know you’re not forced to listen to the radio Also what did the ever-brilliant Naga do to you?"

Another said: "You're a lovely human being, aren't you? What's triggered you love?"

"June please start 2021 over and not be horrible to people. Make yourself a brew and maybe go to bed early," commented another.

"Have a day off June. But you would still be able to hear her - bit silly that, all that pain and you still don’t achieve what you set out to do, I’m a little confused," tweeted another.

"I would go for the ears as a more effective method. Or turn off radio. I disagree with your sentiment. Best wishes in your new job Naga," commented another fan.

Last year Naga had fans cheering with a perfect clapback to some unwarranted criticism from a BBC Breakfast viewer about her choice of shoes.

"I’m not known for my own sartorial elegance but why would anyone like Naga Munchetty feel the need to wear high-heeled shoes like these on a BBC TV breakfast news programme? Discuss..." they wrote.

But Naga shut them down by replying simply: "Because I want to."
