Naga Munchetty congratulates BBC Breakfast co-star as he shares huge job announcement

Naga Munchetty congratulated her co-star as he shared a huge job announcement live on Friday morning's BBC Breakfast.

The TV presenter, 46, hosted the show alongside Jon Kay as her presenting partner Charlie Stayt was still nowhere to be seen due to an unexplained absence.

And during the breakfast segment, Naga couldn't help but congratulate business expert Ben Boulos as he landed a new role at the Salford studios.

Ben currently presents BBC News and BBC World News, but he will be stepping in as Breakfast's resident business correspondent in place of Ben Thompson - who announced he was stepping down from the role in December.

Teasing the news on Twitter, Ben wrote: "The bright lights beckon..." alongside a photo of the iconic red sofa.

He added: "One final clue at 0559… just before the big moment @BBCBreakfast."

In a video, Ben says: "Well, here's one last clue - I'm on the famous red sofa. I'm in Salford. With me, Naga, Jon, Mike. It's almost six o'clock.

"So yes, you've guessed it correctly!"

In the background, excited Naga is heard saying: "It's gonna be so much fun!"

And Ben tells his fans: "I'm very excited, I hope you can join us."

Fans of BBC Breakfast were thrilled with the news, and many took to the comments section to praise the journalist.

One person wrote: "Making Friday morning that little bit brighter…"

"You were magnificent. Already imagining you on Strictly!" a second penned.

At the end of 2021, Ben Thompson revealed he was stepping down from his role.

He announced at the time: "I’m hanging up my @BBCBreakfast hard hat and hi-vis in the New Year, so here’s a little thread of some of my ten years on the road, getting access to some of the most interesting and amazing businesses, and taking you with us.

"Starting out was terrifying but I quickly learned that you’re in safe hands with the brilliant @BBCBreakfast team. We moved from Television Centre in London to MediaCity in Salford in 2012."

Ben concluded: "Thank you to everyone running a business, big or small, for letting us in, letting us poke around and ask questions. I’m in awe of how resilient and determined you are. You just crack on."
