Naga Munchetty acknowledges BBC controversy for the first time on Breakfast show

Naga Munchetty has acknowledged the controversy surrounding comments she made US President Donald Trump for the first time when she was thanked by a guest on the BBC Breakfast show .

The Salford-based presenter was interviewing performer and drag artist Amrou Al-Kadhi when she turned to her and praised her and said it was "an honour" to be in the studio with her.

Al-Kadhi said: "Naga, I just want to say I'm so excited to be on with you. All people of colour were standing alongside you the past week, sisters have to stick together.

"It's never, ever biased to call out racism. So it's real honour to be with you here today."

Having remained silent so far, Naga kindly smiled at the guest and said: "Thank you for your thoughts."

Co-host Charlie Stayt helped out his colleague by continuing the interview adding: "That you should come on here and say that is very much a testament to the kind of bravery that you've had to have in your own life."

It is also reported that she arrived at the studio in MediaCityUK without responding to press questions, and rushing inside with the help of security staff.

A decision to uphold an official impartiality complaint by the BBC's Executive Complaints Unit (ECU) against the Salford-based presenter was made after she criticised Mr Trump's motives after he said four female politicians should 'go back' to 'places from which they came'.

Following fierce backlash, BBC Director-General Tony Hall reviewed and reversed the ruling and said that 'he didn't think Naga's words were sufficient to merit a partial uphold of the complaint around the comments she made'.
