Nadiya Hussain's life since winning Bake Off – from Queen's birthday cake to cookbooks

Nadiya Hussain became a fan-favourite almost immediately when she joined the 2015 cast of The Great British Bake Off.

Known for her sassy attitude and memorable facial expressions, she proved to be incredibly skilled in the kitchen as well.

Her dedicated following continued long after winning the Channel 4 series, with Nadiya arguably being one of the most successful winners of the show in its history.

She has been incredibly busy after it as well, going on to star in her own series’ such as Nadiya Bakes on BBC Two.

Not only that, but she’s even baked for the Queen on her birthday.

What has Nadiya Hussain been doing since winning bake off?

Baked for the Queen

The year following her decisive win, Nadiya baked the Queen’s 90th birthday cake, something she admitted being very nervous about.

Nadiya explained: "I said to my kids that I did a lemon drizzle for Mary (Berry) and maybe I should do an orange drizzle for The Queen.

"My little girl said, 'er, you've already baked a cake for the Queen'. I was really confused and she said, 'Mary Berry'.

"I said, 'She's not The Queen, she's the Queen of Cake'. And she said, 'She is...' It started a fight in our house and it took a while and my daughter is now convinced that the other lady is just an older lady.

"It was nerve wracking because I was so busy doing other things. I had five days. I just got on with it and did it. All the nerves I had just went away when I met The Queen."

Published author

Nadiya has gone on to publish many books over the last eight years, most of which are cookbooks.

These include Fast Flavours, Nadiya Bakes, Time to Eat, Nadiya’s Family Favourites, Nadiya’s British Food Adventure, and many more all found on Nadiya’s website.

She also released Finding My Voice in 2019, which is a personal account of her experiences over the years.

The synopsis reads: “In Finding My Voice, Nadiya explores the many different roles assigned to her by her gender, culture, religion and society and how they have each shaped the woman she is today.”
