Nadine Coyle's funniest moments from 'working with flour' to teaching Caitlyn Jenner a dance routine

There's a lot of things we say here in Northern Ireland that sometimes don’t translate as well in places further afield.

Whether it’s words sounding different in our many dialects, or just making up our own sayings (as popularised by Ted Hastings on Line of Duty), it can be hard to explain our sense of humour and phrases to others.

And nobody is better known for their viral moments and twang than Derry ’s very own Nadine Coyle.

So, let’s have a run through our top five favourite Nadine-isms - and yes, we’ve included the ‘flour’ incident.

The date of birth incident

Maybe the most well-known Nadine moment is when she lied about her age to get onto the TV talent show Popstars.

In an interview for the show, she accidentally let her real date of birth slip. She said: “Date of birth is the fifteenth of the sixth ’85, making me a Gemini.” This makes her 16, when the minimum age requirement to be on the talent show was 18. Ouch.

When she was asked for some proof of ID after this blunder, Nadine even pretended to search for her passport. She even rang her mum back in Derry asking for her to look for it.

She eventually admitted she was younger than the show’s age requirement and was sent home.

The moment has become so iconic that Irish comedian Michael Fry even wrote a song based on it.

Working with flour

A classic clip from TV show Sunday Brunch went viral for Nadine’s pronunciation of “flour”, making it sound like “fleyur.”

And as she appeared this year’s Celebrity Bake Off, it’s only natural that the iconic moment would make a comeback.

Girls Aloud at the Buddhist temple

Back in 2006, Nadine and her bandmates in Girls Aloud travelled to China for a six-part TV series called Girls Aloud: Off the Record. Yes, really.

While there, they visited a Buddhist temple, where Nadine Coyle said she wanted to say a prayer. Explaining this, she said she didn’t know what sort of prayer to say in such a temple.

“But you don’t say a Hail Mary in here,” she added. The hilarious moment can be seen HERE.

The 34-year-old Derry native certainly has a way with words. One of her best quotes has got to be from her 2019 I’m A Celebrity… promotional video.

When asked what she was most worried about in the jungle, she aptly said: “The worst thing that could happen in the jungle is death.”

And who could forget this iconic I’m A Celeb moment, where Nadine put Caitlyn Jenner, Adele Roberts and Jacqueline Jossa a dance routine for Girls Aloud’s song The Promise.

Got to be one of the best moments of that series, and one of our favourite Nadine moments!
