Nadia Sawalha chokes up as she gushes about proposing to husband Mark after 17-year marriage

Nadia Sawalha has revealed her happiness after her husband of 17 years accepted her proposal.

The Loose Women panelist spoke today of her decision to re-ask for Mark Adderley's hand in marriage... even though they've been legally joined together for almost two decades.

Getting emotional on today's show, Nadia admitted she was thinking of proposing on TV until Mark scoffed at the idea in front of their pals.

"There was talk of me proposing, I knew there was something about me doing it on the show," she told her co-hosts.

"And then the other night we had some friends round and we were talking about proposals and Mark said, 'oh god, what about those people who propose on telly, ugh, can you think of anything worse? I'd be so embarrassed.'

"I was like... 'OK'," she shrugged while laughing.

She said the odds had been stacked against them from the start.

"We were both workaholics, Mark went back to work two days into our honeymoon so my mum came on our honeymoon with me," she joked.

"I lot of people at our wedding didn't think we were gong to make it, and they said it in front of us... 17 years later, here we are."

She teared up as she gushed: "Mark is really brave. I always worry he gets defined by the negative stuff... He's such an incredible person and he's the romantic one, so I just wanted to do something that was out there.

"I ended up asking him over the kitchen table."

Nadia and Mark confirmed their decision to get remarried on their YouTube channel, which was also recorded as a podcast about their Valentine's Day plans.

Listing all the reasons why she loves Mark, Nadia gushed about his abilities as a dad to their four daughters and him introducing her to so many of her passions.

"I would really like to ask you if you would like to renew your vows with me," she added.

Clearly touched, Mark gave her a hug while telling his wife: "Aww, you're a funny one aren't you."

She joked that he still hadn't given her an answer, and he laughed: "I know, I will have to think about it."

Mark then told her: "I would love to, oh my god, of course I would love to."

The couple married not long after they first met, when Nadia was pregnant with their eldest daughter Maddie.

And this time around, the TV star wants her and Mark to have more involvement, as their first wedding was organised by her family.

"I thought, renewing the vows is going to be a really lovely thing to do. I don't know if we have ever spoken about our wedding but it was fraught for a number of reasons," she said.

"I mean we had only known each other six months, and I was pregnant and there was a lot going on for us.

"We actually were really busy and we handed over completely to my mum and my sister Dina, who were amazing and gave us the most beautiful wedding, which was very traditional in a lot of ways."

She went on: "We have always talked about it and how it would be amazing to do it again and get nice photos. I didn't like the photos because I was pregnant and all of that stuff. So I thought we could just do something really nice for us, and just decide everything together."
