Nadia Power continues fine form with 800m victory in Belgium

Nadia Power has continued her fine form by powering to victory in the 800m at the IFAM meeting in Belgium today.

The Irish champion's time of 2.02.83 was the second fastest time of her career indoors as she had almost a second to spare over Germany's Tanja Spill.

It has been a breakthrough year for the Dublin woman who broke the Irish record at the distance in her first outing of the season in January.

Power, 23, will next race in the 800m at the World Indoor Tour (Gold) in Torún, Poland on Wednesday 17 of February before focusing on the European Indoor Athletics Championships which take place in the same venue from March 5th-7th.

She recently described the postponement of the Olympics as a "blessing in disguise" because while qualification for Tokyo was still a possibility before the shutdown in March, the European Championships might have been her only summer destination.

"I was looking at Tokyo as a great added bonus if things were to go well. But now having another year, I’ll be 23, that’s not super-young to go to the Olympics.

"It’s a goal I have to set myself. No excuses with another year, I’ve a great opportunity. I just have to go for it."
