Irish actress Nadia Forde is set to make a return to TV with a new comedy she has created set around Italian chippers.
RTE series The Lido centres on a fish and chip shop in Dublin in the 1980s.
And the 31-year-old, who is of Italian descent, revealed she based it on her own history.
The show will depict family relationships and rivalries in the Italian-Irish community in the capital.
Described as heartwarming and charming, the comedy will also deal with themes including immigration, equality and family loyalty.
Nadia said she had been “bursting at the seams” to share the announcement.
Writing on Instagram, the actress added: “The Lido started way back when I was at home nursing my (then) newborn.
“We have the most incredible creative team on this and with @rteone @northernirelandscreen onboard I’m so excited about what we are cooking up together.
“Here’s to many salty vinegar Italian chipper drenched dreams.”
Fans and friends rushed to congratulate the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here star on her new venture.
Best pal Pippa O’Connor wrote: “Congratulations darling. Thrilled for you and can’t wait to see it all
come to life.”
Fellow actress and writer Amy Huberman said: “Fantastic. Well done.”
Roz Purcell wrote, “This is incredible, congrats! We love to see it”, while Donal Skehan and Rosanna Davison described the news as “amazing”.
The comedy is a co-production between Stephen McCormack’s Reflektor Media and Matt Scott’s Play Human and will be made in collaboration with Northern Ireland Screen. No release date has
been given.
