Former Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal has taken to social media to send a heartfelt message to Francis Cagigao after it was announced that the scout would be leaving the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have started a major shake-up of their scouting system, which led to the long-serving scout Cagigao leaving the club.
In his 24-years with the Gunners, the talent spotter has been instrumental in bringing a number of players to the club, including Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin and more recently Gabriel Martinelli.
Another player who he spotted was Monreal, who spent a total of five-and-a-half years at the club after signing from Malaga in January 2013.
The Spaniard played a total of 251 games in an Arsenal shirt, scoring 10 goals and providing 20 assists.
After the news of Cagigao’s departure, Monreal joined former teammate Cesc Fabregas in sending a message to the scout.
“Thank you very much for your service in the last 24 years and giving me the opportunity to enjoy playing for @arsenal”, the 34-year-old wrote on his Instagram account alongside pictures of the scout and players that he had been involved in bringing to the Emirates Stadium over the years.
Monreal now plys his trade in La Liga for Real Sociedad after leaving Arsenal last summer.
He played 33 times in all competitions this season, scoring two goals.
