Naby Keita substitution explained as Vinicius Jr sends message to Liverpool

Here's your Liverpool morning digest for Wednesday, April 7.

Why Naby Keita was substituted after 42 minutes

Jurgen Klopp confirmed the decision to bring Naby Keita off in the first half of the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid was for tactical reasons.

The Guinea international was a somewhat surprise inclusion for the game in Madrid as he made his just his second start of the calendar year.

However, as the Reds struggled to get to grips with the 13-time Champions League winners at the Di Stefano Stadium, Klopp substituted Keita for Thiago Alcantara on the cusp of half time.

Klopp later confirmed the midfielder was not injured and the decision to take him out of the team was purely down to how the side were struggling.

Ramos leads Real reaction as Vinicius Jr sends Liverpool message

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos admitted he was 'frustrated not to be playing' against Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The defender, who missed out after suffering an injury while on international duty with Spain, has a storied history with the Reds - having injured Mohamed Salah and mocked Jurgen Klopp in the aftermath of the 2018 Champions League final.

However, Ramos said he was 'super proud' after watching his teammates record a 3-1 victory at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Vinicius Jr. scored twice in the game and Marco Asensio also grabbed a goal for the hosts as Jurgen Klopp's side battled back after a very poor first-half performance.
