Naby Keita's family home targeted by angry youths after Liverpool midfielder's AFCON disappointment

The family home of Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita in Guinea has been targeted by angry youths.

Police in Conakry have confirmed that they were called out after reports of a disturbance.

“We sent a team of policemen to a house at Coleah in Conakry to restore calm after some youths attempted acts of riotous conduct in a house believed to be the family home of footballer Naby Keita,” a police source told the BBC.

Media in Conakry reported that the youths were targeting one of Keita's relatives who they claimed had performed witchcraft which had affected the player's performances in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Keita has endured a difficult period since suffering a groin injury in the first leg of Liverpool 's Champions League semi-final with Barcelona in early May.

Initially, he was ruled out for around two months and was set to miss the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

He recovered ahead of schedule to make the Guinea squad for the tournament but has continued to be hampered by fitness problems.

Keita came off the bench in the opening group game against Madagascar and then after starting against Nigeria he was forced off with a knock and missed the game against Burundi.

The 24-year-old flew back to Merseyside at the start of this week to be assessed by club medical staff.

Guinea are hoping he will return to Egypt ahead of their last 16 clash with Algeria on Sunday.
