Naby Keita injury fears eased with Liverpool hopeful he will be on club's pre-season tour

Naby Keita is expected to be fit to join Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States despite having to miss part of Guinea's Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The 24-year-old originally sustained an adductor injury during the Reds' Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona , and was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

He looked to have made a full recovery, and came on as a substitute during Guinea's 2-2 draw against Madagascar last month.

However, he had to be replaced after 71 minutes in his country's 1-0 loss against Nigeria after suffering a recurrence of the same injury, with fears he could face another spell on the touchline.

But after returning to Liverpool's Melwood training ground for treatment and being assessed by staff he is not expected to be out for a significant amount of time, news which will no doubt come as a relief to Reds fans.

He has now gone on holiday before returning for pre-season duty, with Liverpool due to face Dortmund in Indiana, Sevilla in Boston and Sporting Lisbon in New York between July 19 and 24 in preparation for the season-opening Community Shield match against Manchester City at Wembley on 4 August.

Keita took a while to settle in England but generally had a successful first season at Anfield, making 33 appearances and helping his side towards Champions League glory and a second-place Premier League finish.

He scored goals against Huddersfield , Southampton and Porto, and supporters will be hoping to see the best of the £52.75m signing from RB Leipzig next season now that he has a full campaign in England under his belt.

Liverpool have been linked with Keita's old Leipzig team-mate Timo Werner this summer, with the 23-year-old striker reportedly keen to work under Jurgen Klopp and link up with his ex-colleague.
