Naby Keita future at Liverpool and Roberto Firmino headache as referee hits back at Jurgen Klopp

Here's your Liverpool morning digest for Thursday, April 8.

Keita's Liverpool future might have just been decided

Naby Keita was hauled off in the first-half against Real Madrid and "it was tactical", Jurgen Klopp confirmed after the game.

The fact that the manager forcibly removed the Guinea international from the action before allowing himself the chance to give his players the proverbial half-time rocket spoke volumes.

The Liverpool boss didn't even want to wait until the break to hook his attacking midfielder, even if a cooler Klopp after the game would concede that the move would only increase the scrutiny further on the performance of Keita.

Paul Gorst has the full story as to why his future at Anfield may well have just been decided.

Roberto Firmino transfer headache

Liverpool are expected to be in the market for another forward option this summer with stars such as Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi possibly moving on.

Which players they opt to target remains to be seen, with plenty of different options available for them to choose from like Patson Daka or replicating another Diogo Jota-type deal with someone more versatile to fill the gap.

But there is another thing to take into consideration beyond simply finding another player to bring into the squad as Liverpool seek to progress to the next level of their forward line.

And, Matt Addison has the full report as to why a certain Roberto Firmino could have a big say in proceedings.

Referee hits back at Klopp

Jurgen Klopp wasn't particularly taken with the standard of officiating from compatriot Felix Brych in the Spanish capital.

The Liverpool boss had words with the referee as they walked off together following the final whistle, accusing him of being "unfair" to Sadio Mane after a seemingly red-card offence on the Senegalese by Lucas Vazquez went unpunished.

Brych, though, was having none of it.

"What you're doing now is unfair too," he responded to Klopp before the pair disappeared down the tunnel.

Ian Doyle has the full details from all of the lesser spotted moments against Real Madrid.
