Nabil Fekir transfer latest: La Liga trio enter race as Mesut Ozil holds the key to Arsenal move

A number of stars have been linked with a summer switch to Arsenal, but one name just won't go away.

Nabil Fekir is widely tipped for a move away from Lyon this summer with several clubs around Europe keen on a move for the playmaker.

Liverpool went close to securing a deal last summer, whereas this summer it appears that the Gunners represent the biggest opportunity to bring the 25-year-old to England.

Here's everything we know about Arsenal's pursuit of Nabil Fekir, and how likely a move is to materialse.

Arsenal's search for a playmaker

It's no secret that Arsenal are looking to enhance the creativity in their squad and according to L'Equipe , the Gunners are weighing up a move for Fekir.

As well as fitting into the role of playmaker, Fekir has the versatility to play in each position of the attacking line, including the flanks and as a support striker.

Crucially, Fekir doesn't just make his name with assists, but also boasts a goalscoring record with Lyon which equates to almost one in three, making him a real asset to the attacking ranks.

How much will Nabil Fekir cost?

Reports in The Mirror claim that the Gunners have been offered Fekir for a fee of £30million.

While that would represent decent value for money compared to other targets, it would still amount to the majority of Arsenal's £40million transfer kitty.

That means that a move would likely depend on the ability to offload players first.

Arsenal have competition

There are other teams in the reckoning for a Fekir move.

And Spanish side Real Betis appear to have stolen a march on the Gunners in the race to sign him.

According to reports in Le Parisien, Betis have agreed personal terms with Fekir over a move to Spain this summer, with a fee in the region of €30million still to be agreed.

However, that Betis deal is reliant on another transfer happening - Giovani Lo Celso to Tottenham.

So Arsenal's north London rivals could hold the key when it comes to the Gunenrs making another signing this summer.

What does Arsenal's interest mean for Mesut Ozil?

The Gunners look likely to try and offload several players to boost their summer transfer budget with Ozil being one of the contenders to leave.

The playmaker fell out of favour under Unai Emery last term, and given his status as Arsenal's highest earner, it's likely that the club will listen to offers for the midfielder.

However with Ozil occupying a large chunk of the wage bill, L'Equipe are reporting that a deal is unlikely to be agreed unless the Gunners can offload the £350k per week star.

What have Lyon said about Fekir's future

Lyon are planning for life without Fekir.

Although they still hold a hope that he will change his mind and want to stay with the club.

Sporting director Juninho Pernambucano said: "He's an important person at the club: he's trained here, he wears the captain's armband, he's also world champion.

"Honestly, I think it’s going to be difficult to convince him to continue. His generation has gone away.

"It’s not a closed matter but I’m telling you the truth. We would like to keep him. For the moment, the only conceivable departure is his. As long as he does not leave, we will work with him as if he were going to stay.

"It’s up to him to think about it, to make a decision with his family. But the possibility that he leaves is a reality."
