Nabil Fekir told to 'stop taking people for fools' over failed Liverpool transfer by former agent

The former agent of Nabil Fekir has hit back at claims from the France international suggesting he didn't know why a proposed transfer to Liverpool fell through last summer.

Fekir was on the brink of a £50million switch to Anfield in June 2018 when the deal dramatically fell through at the 11th hour days before the World Cup got underway in Russia.

After undergoing a medical in France, Liverpool sought a second opinion over a long-standing knee problem before the plug was pulled on the switch.

Fekir, who joined Real Betis for less than £20m in July, over his failure to secure a move to Liverpool last year.

The ex-Lyon captain severed ties with agent Jean-Pierre Bernes in April this year after their relationship turned sour and the representative has since responded to Fekir's claims over how the transfer played out last summer.

"He has to stop this show and stop taking people for fools," Bernes told L'Equipe (via Sport Witness ).

"Everyone knows what happened. The transfer to Liverpool has turned around for two reasons. The first is his knee, even though the English club were willing to make an effort on this.

"The second is the appearance of a foreign pseudo-representative who asked for the negotiations to be resumed from the beginning at the moment of signing.

"Between this episode and the medical visit, Liverpool’s leaders decided to abandon the transfer."

Speaking to the same publication in France, Fekir claimed that he had no idea why his move to Liverpool was called off.

The attacking midfielder had undergone a medical and performed in-house media duties before the transfer failed to get over the line.

"Lots of lies were told and they affected me," he said. "Especially those told about my family.

"!It hurt them and me. Especially when you know that's what being told is false."
