Nabil Fekir slammed after failed Liverpool transfer as France legend explains why Jurgen Klopp had lucky escape

Former Liverpool target Nabil Fekir has been slammed by France legend Willy Sagnol with the former Bayern Munich defender insisting the playmaker isn't good enough to leave Lyon.

The World Cup winner saw a move to Anfield fall through last summer because of injury, but looks set to move on this year with just a year left on his contract.

However, the Reds are not interested in re-visiting their interest in the Frenchman with the 25-year-old's future in question following an under-whelming year in France.

And former Bayern Munich defender Sagnol has stuck the knife into the Lyon skipper, claiming he should have been benched and lost the captaincy after his failed move to Liverpool last summer.

"They have to take the armband off him and put him on the bench if he doesn’t want to play," he told French radio station RMC. “They did the same with [Yoann] Gourcuff.”

But while injury might have cost Fekir his move to Jurgen Klopp 's side last summer, Sagnol thinks there is another big reason why he's yet to earn a move to one of the top teams on the planet.

"He is too inconsistent with his performances and it has cooled the interest in him from big clubs," he explained.

"They want players who are eight out of ten all the time.
