Nabil Fekir's former agent slams France star and reveals two reasons for failed Liverpool move

Nabil Fekir's former agent has snapped back at the Frenchman following his comments on his failed move to Liverpool .

Fekir, who joined Real Betis this summer, was on his way to Anfield in the summer of 2018 before the deal fell through at the 11th hour.

Liverpool pulled the plug due to a long-standing knee problem but Fekir has finally addressed those suggestions.

Speaking this week, Fekir branded that explanation a "lie" and suggested Liverpool were looking for an excuse not so sign him.

Fekir also angrily dismissed suggestions his family played a part in him not making the move.

His agent at the time, Jean-Pierre Bernes has responded to Fekir and insists the explanation from Liverpool remains the truth.

"He has to stop this show and stop taking people for fools. Everyone knows what happened," Bernes told L'Equipe.

"The transfer to Liverpool has turned around for two reasons. The first is his knee, even though the English club’s leaders were willing to make an effort on this.

"The second is the appearance of a foreign pseudo-representative who asked for the negotiations to be resumed from the beginning at the moment of signing.

"Between this episode and the medical visit, Liverpool’s leaders decided to abandon the case.”

Fekir ended his stay at Lyon this summer to join Real Betis but there remains questions over the failed £53m move to Anfield.

"You want the truth? Even I don't know - I promise you! I did my medical and then [Liverpool] decided not to sign me," he said.

"At some point they wanted to have me believe it was because of my knee - but an excuse needed to be found."
