Nabil Fekir's agent opens up on failed move to Liverpool as playmaker edges closer to Lyon exit

Nabil Fekir's agent admits that concerns over the Lyon midfielder's knee led to Liverpool pulling the plug on his move to Anfield – but insists that was only part of the story.

The Reds were on the brink of signing the France international for £53million last June after agreeing a five-year contract.

Fekir posed in a Liverpool shirt and even conducted an interview with club media before the deal dramatically collapsed.

Scans from his medical sparked concerns over the ACL injury he suffered back in 2015 and Anfield officials decided it was too great a risk given the cost of the transfer.

At the time Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas tried to claim that he had walked away from the negotiations and those close to Fekir played down talk about his knee.

Ten months on, Fekir has scored 12 goals in 34 appearances for Lyon this season and his future is once again the subject of debate in his homeland.

He's out of contract in 2020 and having failed to agree an extension at Lyon he's expected to move on this summer.

His agent Jean-Pierre Bernes told L'Equipe: “It is not about staying here.

“And we will know maybe the real circumstances that prevented Fekir's move to Liverpool.

“The knee was a part of it but not only that. He had passed a medical, done photos with the Reds shirt…”

Fekir's future is complicated by the fact that his agreement to be represented by Bernes expires later this month.
