Nabil Fekir’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, has suggested his client could yet join Liverpool this summer despite the breakdown of the Lyon captain’s £53m to Anfield.
Fekir was set to be confirmed as Liverpool’s second signing of the summer earlier this month until concerns – believed to be regarding the player’s medical – were raised.
Fekir, who is with France at the World Cup in Russia, suffered a serious knee injury while on international duty in September 2015 and has missed more than a month-and-a-half’s worth of football with separate knee issues since.
Lyon released a statement confirming that negotiations with Liverpool had broken down on 9 June and claimed they would be able to “count on the presence” of Fekir for the 2018-19 campaign.
However, while appearing on French television channel LCI on Monday night, Bernes playfully suggested that Fekir’s future has not been fully resolved.
“[Fekir] did not sign because it is not finished, the story,” he said, when asked about the collapse of the Liverpool transfer by presenter Patrick Chêne.
On Tuesday, Fekir spoke to journalists for the first time since Lyon’s statement, while taking part in a pre-match press conference at France’s World Cup camp.
The 24-year-old dismissed fears over long-lasting knee issues, telling reporters: “My knee is super-good. We work a lot on it, we reinforce it. But I honestly feel like before my injury.”
Fekir also said it was “great” to see Jean-Michel Aulas, the Lyon president, after his visit to France’s base in Istra but he claimed the pair had not discussed his future.
When asked directly about the breakdown of his move to Liverpool, Fekir said: “You know I am here with France, I am happy, and I am not here to discuss my personal situation. We will see about all that later.”
