Nabil Fekir decision confirmed as Liverpool transfer saga continues

Nabil Fekir's split from his agent has been confirmed as the fallout from the Lyon midfielder's failed move to Liverpool continues.

The Reds agreed a £48.4million fee for Fekir last June before the move fell through shortly before it was due to be announced.

The France international's relationship with his agent Jean-Pierre Bernes soured as a consequence, with Fekir keen to end the association for some time.

Bernes sought legal advice before accepting a parting of the ways while hinting at a falling out following last summer's transfer drama.

The agreement between the pair ended on April 17 and Bernes told radio station Europe 1 on Saturday: “I terminated the contract on (Thursday).

“It was a choice (Fekir) took. He will certainly look for another agent.

“Like all human relationships, from time to time you can have a difference of opinion on someone’s future or their behaviour.”

Fekir is out of contract at the end of next season and has called a halt on talks over new contract at Lyon, with the French side now expected to cash in on their prize asset during the forthcoming transfer window.

Bernes, though, has questioned whether any big clubs are actually interested in signing the 25-year-old.

“To get into one of the top 10 clubs is very difficult, you must have an approach,” added Bernes.

“You must not place too much importance on the role of an agent.

"When you have a big player and a big club wants him, it is the club who come to see you. (If not) You are not soliciting interest.”
