Nabil Fekir decision confirmed as Liverpool target looks to secure summer transfer

Nabil Fekir has split from his agent, as the Lyon captain looks to secure the summer transfer denied him last year.

France international Fekir was close to a £53million switch to Liverpool in 2018, but a move to Anfield fell through - even after the player had been snapped in a Reds shirt.

Liverpool pulled the plug on the deal following complications with the World Cup winner's medical.

And the failure of Fekir’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes to resurrect the deal led to a souring of relations between the pair, so much so that they barely spoke during their final months together.

The agreement between the pair ended on April 17 and Bernes told radio station Europe 1 on Saturday that they have indeed parted ways.

“I terminated the contract on [Thursday],” said Bernes.

“It was a choice [Fekir] took. He will certainly look for another agent.

“Like all human relationships, from time to time you can have a difference of opinion on someone’s future or their behaviour.”

Fekir has impressed once again at OL this season, and he continues to be linked with a possible switch to Merseyside.

But he has also been mooted as a transfer target for Real Madrid , Chelsea and Bayern Munich, amid suggestions he has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with OL chief Jean-Michel Aulas that he can depart this summer.

But Bernes has fanned the flames regarding Fekir and whether Europe’s elite are genuinely interested in taking him from his current club.

“To get into one of the top 10 clubs is very difficult, you must have an approach,” added Bernes.

“You must not place too much importance on the role of an agent.

"When you have a big player and a big club wants him, it is the club who come to see you.

“You are not soliciting interest.”
