Nabil Bentaleb set to join Newcastle United in first major January transfer

Newcastle United are set to complete the loan signing of Nabil Bentaleb from Schalke 04 on Tuesday.

The midfielder spent the night on Tyneside with his representatives and a fee of around £9m has been agreed if the loan goes well.

Bentaleb went through his medical on Monday and took part in all the other usual formalities at St James’ Park.

It remains to be seen whether United can get a deal done for on loan.

Steve Bruce said on Monday: “Things change in two or three days We are active at this moment.

"Because of what has happened we are short in that area.

"We will see what we can do."

Bentaleb, 25, is an Algerian international and played in the Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur from 2013 before moving to the Bundesliga in 2016.

Last year, he was disciplined by Schalke and dropped to the U23s, a club statement said.
