Naas, Co Kildare crash claims life of man, 50s

A man has died after a crash between a lorry and a car in Co Kildare.

The tragic incident happened in the Stephenstown area of Kilcullen, Nass, at around 9.50am this morning.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, died at the scene.

Another man in his 50s, who was the driver of the lorry, was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Gardai say the road will remain closed until late this evening for a technical examination, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a lorry that occurred in the Stephenstown area of Kilcullen, Nass, Co. Kildare, on 25/06/2020 at approximately 9:50am.

"The driver of the car, a man believed to be aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His body has been removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital for a post mortem.

"The driver of the lorry, a man aged in his 50s, was taken to Naas General Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"A technical examination of the scene is being carried out currently and the road is expected to remain closed until late this evening.

"Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any road users who may have dash cam footage, to contact them at Naas Garda Station on 045 884 300 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
