N.Y. Times: Warriors’ Steph Curry, former President Obama in contact ‘about once a month’

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is as famous as an NBA player can be, and he keeps company with even more famous friends, including former United States Presiden, Barack Obama.

It’s easy for Curry to meet people in high places with Golden State winning three NBA titles in the last five seasons. Curry and the Warriors visited Obama at the White House after Curry won his first NBA championship in 2015.

The team even visited Obama after the 44th president of the United States had left office — in a move that must have only strengthened Curry’s and Obama’s relationship. The two also share a passion for golf and social issues, and Obama dined at Ayesha Curry’s restaurant, International Smoke.

It adds up to a lasting bond between Curry and Obama.

According to the New York Times’  Sopan Deb, the two converse fairly frequently:

The next several months have much in store for Curry, a 31-year-old basketball savant who, after 10 seasons, is already thinking hard about life after basketball. … He will probably field a call or two from former President Barack Obama (he said they are in contact about once a month).

With friends like Obama, life after basketball for Curry could take on a variety of forms — he could even enter the political fray if he so chooses. Curry’s current ambitions revolve around basketball and family, but the relationship between the two men is one to watch, even if they simply continue to play golf and remain pals.
