N. Korean govt ship spotted in EEZ off Noto Peninsula

A North Korean government ship was spotted last month in an exclusive economic zone west of the Yamatotai area off the Noto Peninsula, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said Wednesday.

The ship, which was spotted sailing in the rich fishing grounds in the morning of Sept. 29, was initially unidentified, but was later found to be a North Korean government ship. The Japanese government expressed concern about such activity to Pyongyang through an embassy channel in Beijing.

"To secure the safety of Japanese fishing vessels, we'll work together with the relevant bodies," Kato said.
