N’Keal Harry’s stellar practice could foreshadow a breakout season

It wasn’t the most perfect rookie season for New England Patriots receiver N’Keal Harry. After battling injuries that kept him out until Nov. 17 against Philadelphia, he wasn’t really able to get into a rhythm. Now, it appears he is making up for lost time.

According to reports from practice on Monday, Harry recorded two touchdown passes, working with new Patriots quarterback Cam Newton. If anything, this is certainly a step in the right direction. Furthermore, it could foreshadow a potential breakout season for the second-year player.

The talent is there — that’s what the Patriot drafted him in the first round in 2019. When you take a look at what he did at Arizona State, he certainly has the potential to be a game-changer. He recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in his sophomore and junior seasons. In his junior season of 2018, he recorded 1,088 yards and nine touchdowns. Not only that, he averaged an astounding 14.9 yards per reception.

His best game in 2018 came against Utah. In that contest, he recorded nine catches for 161 yards and three touchdowns. In total that year, he recorded four games of at least 100 yards receiving. He showed the ability to make plays down the field, and the ability to be a matchup nightmare for corners.

That nightmare matchup ability is what he could bring to New England. He is the perfect size for a red zone target at six-foot-four, 216 pounds. He certainly brings a type of playmaking ability that the Patriots have not had at the outside receiver spot in quite some time. Monday, we were able to see a little bit of that.

If Harry can keep improving throughout the course of camp, he could prove to be a wise draft pick. with a new look offense searching for a consistent identity, this is the perfect time for Harry to begin to make his mark.
