N'Golo Kante's standing at Chelsea under Frank Lampard and the truth about his future

There is no rift between N'Golo Kante and Frank Lampard, despite claims in a French newspaper over the weekend that the Chelsea midfielder and head coach have fallen out over permission to attend a wedding.

The West London club have described the report, which said Kante wanted to leave in the summer transfer window, as "nonsense".

On Sunday Le Parisien said that Kante was unable to accept Lampard refusing to allow him permission to attend a friend's ceremony and wanted to leave Stamford Bridge for Inter Milan. The newspaper said he will try to leave the club again next year.

What is Project Big Picture?

Kante has started every Premier League game so far this season after putting last season's injury problems behind him and there is no prospect of Chelsea allowing him to leave.

Lampard views Kante as a crucial part of his young team and the club will only consider selling him if a club was to offer a huge fee, which is unlikely in the current climate.

The 29-year-old was linked with a move to Real Madrid last year but the La Liga side never made a firm enquiry and have been financially hit hard by coronavirus.

Reports of Inter Milan's interest in Kante were also overblown.

Kante will line up against clubmate Mateo Kovacic as France visit Croatia in the UEFA Nations League tomorrow evening having played all 90 minutes in the scoreless draw at home to Portugal on Sunday evening.

He is under contract until the summer of 2023 and is one of the Premier League's highest earners on a salary of around £150,000 a week.
