Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has suggested that he is eyeing an extended stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of his current contract.
Signed from Leicester City in 2016, the diminutive French midfielder has been a virtual ever-present for the Blues under a host of different managers.
Signed by Antonio Conte, the 30-year-old has thrived under the likes of Maurizio Sarri, Frank Lampard and now Thomas Tuchel and was pivotal as Chelsea lifted their second UEFA Champions League crown this season.
With two years left on his current contract at the club, Kante has revealed that he harbours no aspirations on leaving West London any time soon.
Talking in a press conference with national side France, he said: “I have been at Chelsea for 5 years, I have enjoyed wonderful seasons. I hope to experience many others.
“It is not something that I am focusing on. I have another two years of contract with Chelsea and I feel good.”
Kante’s comments come amid suggestions that he should be awarded the Ballon d’Or for his performances throughout the 2020/21 campaign.
Indeed, it is somewhat difficult to argue with that fact having played a key role in the aforementioned Champions League success, as well as having helped Chelsea to a place in the Premier League top four and the FA Cup final.
However, even the player himself has admitted that whilst talk of the award is humbling, it may have come slightly too prematurely.
“I think it is a little early to speak about that now,” Kante continued. “We have just arrived at the middle of the year, we have 6 more months, there are still lots of matches and competitions to play in.
“There is no point saying that I deserve it today. A few years ago I finished in the top 10, and that was nice, but to win it would be another story. It is a wonderful individual prize for players.
“I see it was a result of a season produced by players, not as an objective, those who have won it have achieved great things throughout their whole career.”
