Chelsea predicted XI vs Liverpool: N'Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic and Emerson to return

After their Champions League defeat to Valencia on Tuesday night, Chelsea have a tough return to Premier League action against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Blues currently sit on eight points from their opening five games, however that's still seven behind the Reds who have made the perfect start of five wins from five to begin.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side did slip up in Europe as well as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli in midweek.

Frank Lampard could be boosted by the return of N'Golo Kante this weekend, who has had a frustrating start to the campaign due to injuries carried over from last season and at the beginning of this year.

The World Cup winner has been back in training once again and Lampard, while looking to manage his workload, could put him back in against the Champions League winners.

"It is a boost, we know the importance of him for any team that he plays in. The quality that he brings," Lampard said.

"The question is how fit he is. He has had a long time out now since the back-end of last season. He has played a couple of games this is, but you can’t count that as much because he missed pre-season.

"What he did in Istanbul was miraculous, rather than the norm. To play how he did without training. Now we have to manage him, similar to Mason, with the bigger pitcure. It’s great to have him back around us."

Mason Mount was a major injury concern for Chelsea fans ahead of the meeting with Liverpool. The sight of the midfielder hobbling off in the early stages of the match against Valencia after a bad tackle from Francis Coquelin, would have been one that Blues' fans wouldn't enjoy seeing, however, there is good news on the midfielder.

Lampard has confirmed that he has a chance to feature at the weekend, but it is unlikely that he will start the game, Chelsea fans will be hoping that the youngster is fit enough to make an appearance from the bench.

Meanwhile, it could be a change back to a 4-3-3 after a brief foray into the 3-4-2-1 system, which would mean that Kante could be joined by Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Fikayo Tomori is starting to become a regular in the side and could partner Andreas Christensen in the middle of the defence.

Emerson Palmieri could also be back in action, after a return to training after his injury.

Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic has not featured in two matches in a row, but could return to action after playing well against Liverpool in the Super Cup.

Predicted Chelsea XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Christensen, Tomori, Emerson; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Willian, Abraham, Pulisic.
