N'Golo Kante and three changes Frank Lampard could make for Chelsea's clash vs Bayern Munich

The 2019/20 season still goes on for Chelsea as they face Bayern Munich in their Champions League Round of 16 clash on Saturday evening.

Losing 3-0 in the first encounter all the way back in February, Frank Lampard's men face an uphill task if they are to progress through to the quarter-finals at the Allianz Arena.

The German side have been extremely strong on home soil over the course of the season and the visitors really are going to have to produce an incredible performance if they are to advance.

What makes things a bit tougher for the FA Cup finalists is that they will be without a number of first-team regulars.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Christian Pulisic both miss out with hamstring injuries sustained in last weekend's defeat against Arsenal at Wembley, with Pedro denied a Chelsea farewell after injuring his shoulder in the closing minutes of the game.

Marcos Alonso and Jorginho are suspended, while it's not clear yet if N'Golo Kante, Willian and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will play a part due to their respective injury issues.

One thing for certain is that Lampard will have to make four enforced changes from the team that lost the FA Cup final six days ago.

But who could come in? football.london takes a look.

Emerson Palmieri for Marcos Alonso

The game in Germany could prove to be Emerson's last in a Chelsea shirt.

Signed from Roma in 2018, the Italian international has been tipped to return to Serie A this summer after a lack of game time in west London.

As Alonso is suspended for the game at the Allianz, the 26-year-old looks a certainty to come back in.

Ross Barkley for Cesar Azpilicueta

Lampard must make a decision regarding his formation for the game in Germany after favouring a three-man defence in recent weeks.

The Blues need to go out and attack in Germany if they have any chance of going through and that may see him opt for an extra man in midfield.

Ross Barkley likes to push on and have an influence in the final third so that may see him get the nod in the middle.

If not, it could be Andreas Christensen who replaces Azpilicueta if the head coach sticks with the formation he has plumped for recently.

N'Golo Kante for Jorginho

Jorginho unfortunately also has to sit the game out through suspension and Lampard doesn't exactly have many options in midfield.

Kante will more than likely come back into the side if he is deemed fit enough to start after last featuring against Watford one month ago.

The Frenchman did train with his teammates at Cobham on Thursday so Lampard may elect to throw him in if he's declared fit.

Callum Hudson-Odoi for Christian Pulisic

Pulisic's hamstring injury could open the door for Callum Hudson-Odoi to get a rare start.

The England international just hasn't hit the heights after a terrific breakthrough season 12 months ago and he has an awful lot to do in his bid to convince Lampard he should be a first-team regular.

Hudson-Odoi was tipped to sign for Bayern one year ago and he will be out to show them what they missed out on.

The 19-year-old's place in the side may depend on Willian's fitness.
