AMARAVATI: TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday welcomed the high court's verdict on the Amaravati case. "Justice has prevailed. The Amaravati farmers, who waged a long and uncompromising battle against the government's capital trifurcation move, have emerged victorious," he said.
Naidu said his government had pooled 33,000 acres of land without spending a penny from the exchequer. "This has not happened anywhere in the world. It was possible only due to the sacrifices made by the local farmers," he said, while stating that branding Amaravati as capital of a particular community was foolish.
He said he has never worked for any particular section, community or group in his political career. "I developed Cyberabad when I was CM of undivided AP which helped Hyderabad become a global city. I had proposed a 187km-long ring road for Amaravati along with development of nine theme cities," he said, adding that everything he dreamt of Amaravati was for the sake of the state and people.
Meanwhile, the TDP urged the government not to appeal against the Amaravati verdict. Senior party leader Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar said it's high time the government took an appropriate decision for the benefit of the state. Party politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu asked the government to immediately implement the high court verdict, adding that serious injustice has been done to the state in the name of three capital cities in the last three years.
Former legislative council chairman MA Shariff said he referred the controversial Bills to the select committee which the government turned down. "The state would have benefited had the government taken the order with a note of caution," he said, while urging the government to end the controversies over the capital and set focus on development.
