MyTaxi to introduce €5 cancellation fee for customers

One of Dublin's most popular taxi apps is set to introduce a cancellation fee for customers.

MyTaxi made the announcement today warning customers that the changes are coming later this month.

As part of an update to terms and conditions, MyTaxi told customers they may be charged if they cancel after a driver accepts the job.

But following an influx of queries from users on social media today, the company have said they will not be charging drivers for cancelling on customers.

A statement emailed to customers said: "We’re introducing a €5 passenger cancellation fee.

"You can cancel your trip at any time, but you may be charged a fee in certain cases where a driver already accepted your request, for example where you cancel two minutes or more after a driver accepts your request and is on route to pick you up."

And users who are not at the pick-up address within five minutes of a driver's arrival will also have to pay the €5 fee if the driver subsequently cancels the job.

Cash-only users will be barred from the app after two cancellations if they fail to pay up.

But new customers who have never used MyTaxi before will be given a grace period and are allowed three cancellations before they incur a fee.

The changes will come into effect on May 23, 2019.

MyTaxi are also bringing in a number of other changes including a journey-sharing service currently only available in Limerick.

Match allows passengers to hire a taxi with others travelling in the same direction and split the costs.

The company said it is currently introducing terms for the Match service and is also currently trialling a subscription service which would allow passengers to pre-purchase time-limited plans and avail of discounts.
