Mysuru: Golden throne assembled at Amba Vilas

Mysuru: The jewel-studded golden throne was assembled at Amba Vilas, the glass topped ornate hall at Mysuru Palace on Friday. The Mysuru royal family members and officials of the Mysuru Palace Board were present when the throne was taken out and assembled.

The throne will be used by the royal family members during the private Dasara celebrations. The scion of the erstwhile royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will ascend the throne and hold the symbolic Khas Durbar inside the palace during the festival from October 7 to 15. The Khas Durbar will be held every day during the evening.

The golden throne was taken out from the strongroom in the ground floor of the Palace amid tight security during the auspicious Thula lagna at 7.20am on Friday and kept in the Amba Vilas Hall. After the dharmadikari and palace priests performed Navagraha Homa, Ganapati Homa and Chamundeshwari puja, around 15 members from the palace assembled the 14 parts as per rituals.

The assembling of the throne was also monitored by authorities through CCTV cameras and workers who were involved in the assembling work were asked to not to carry their mobile phones with them.

The throne was assembled at 11.23am after which priests conducted a mangalarathi to it. The Bhadrasana was assembled at Kannadi Thotti. The whole process was monitored by royal family members Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and Trishika Kumari and Mysuru Palace Board deputy director TS Subramanya.

To facilitate the assembly of the throne, the Palace Board had banned the entry of tourists to the palace till 3pm. All palace gates were closed to tourists.

On the first day of the Navarathri, which is on October 7, the Simha Shikara (lion’s head) will be fixed to the golden throne in the morning after which Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will hold a private durbar. On that day, the visitors will not be allowed to the palace from 10am to 2pm.

Similarly, on October 14, entry is restricted from 10am to 2pm on account of Ayudha Puja. The next day there will be a complete ban on visitors to the palace due to Vijaya dashami. On October 31, rituals will be performed during the dismantling of the golden throne from 10am to 1pm and visitors’ entry will be restricted during the period.
