MYSURU: Nearly 12 days after locals and activists exposed a Nandini ghee adulteration racket in Hosahundi village on the city outskirts, police made a breakthrough by arresting four accused.
Police said they suspect the involvement of a few more in the racket, which was unearthed on December 16. Police had seized 10 tonnes of adulterated ghee at the time. As the incident sent shockwaves among consumers, farmers, and other stakeholders, there was pressure on police to speed up the probe.
Superintendent of police R Chetan said a police team led by DySP Sumit arrested four persons. “Among the arrested, two were named in the FIR itself. All four are residents of Mysuru. Based on information shared by the arrested, we will continue the probe,” he said. He hinted at more arrests in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha district president Hosuru Kumar on Tuesday demanded a CBI inquiry into the Nandini ghee adulteration case.
