Mystery woman with 'Scottish accent' found on Croatian island unable to remember name

Croatian authorities are attempting to ascertain the identity of a mystery woman who was found perched on a rock off the island of Krk.

The woman, who appears to be in her 60s, is reported to speak perfect English 'with a Scottish accent', but has been unable to tell authorities who she is or how she managed to end up on the rock.

She was spotted by a local fisherman on Saturday, September 11 at night and then again the following morning alone on a remote and very inaccessible part of the island, near the beach of Rudine, Total Croatia News reports.

The fisherman then alerted local police.

She was rescued by 12 members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service after they received a call to assist an injured person who could not be rescued by sea.

The woman, who was wearing a sun hat, t-shirt and leggings, had cuts and bruises to her face and body and was discovered 'weak and disorientated', with reports suggesting that she was screaming for help in English when she was found.

A brief exchange with the wife of the fisherman who found her led to the suggestion that she was speaking English 'with a Scottish accent', although another report also suggests she is Slovakian and had lived in the UK for some time.

She is currently recovering in a hospital in the city of Rijeka on the mainland, and is reported to have no recollection of who she is or how she ended up in the remote part of the island of Krk.

She was not carrying any identifying documents in her possession either.

The woman is reported to be in stable condition in hospital as enquiries continue to ascertain her identity and how she ended up where she did.
