Folks, the mystery behind the trespasser who broke into a Brisbane woman’s home to use her pool has been revealed, and he’s got some things to say.
ICYMI, a homeowner in New Farm was left feeling violated earlier this week after discovering that a random man had, on four separate occasions, bypassed her front gate to take a swim in her backyard pool.
At the time, Holly Stevens said the mystery swimmer appeared to be taking the dips after exercising, with security footage showing him in athletic gear as he peered through the windows before having a few poolside stretches.

Stevens said the trespasser displayed “a sense of entitlement” in thinking her pool was available for communal use, and referred the matter to the police.
Now, as the dust (and chlorine) has settled, the man captured in the footage has come forward, and his name is *drum roll*… Matt.
A bit underwhelming (not even Matt the Menace?), but he assured folks in a recent interview that he isn’t some devious pool-snatcher.
“To me, it looked like a display home,” he told 7News, making the correct choice of launching a press tour that also included a Sunrise interview (60 Minutes, book him now).
“I didn’t think anyone lived there, so I just decided I was hot and thought I’d go for a swim,” Matt said.

Seems straightforward enough, but the social media firestorm that erupted after the security footage went viral brought on a pool’s worth of anxiety for Matt.
“To be honest, I didn’t sleep for a couple of days,” he admitted. “I didn’t mean to make anyone feel unsafe.”
Matt revealed that the repercussions of his cheeky dip were so intense that he deleted social media and even briefly fled Brisbane, leaving a trail of chlorinated drips in his wake.
After fearing that he “was going to jail for swimming in someone’s pool”, Matt soon turned himself into police (not wearing his towel), who issued him with a warning.
“They just gave me a caution and told me not to do it again,” Matt said.
Naturally, Matt’s stunt landed him in hot water (ha!) with his loved ones, who kindly reminded him they have pools to spare.

“My cousins have been calling up and asking if I want to go for a swim at theirs and my mates have been saying, ‘Yeah, come round for a swim, bro.’”
On Sunrise, Matt apologised directly to Stevens for trespassing, saying he hopes “we can put it behind us and go for a swim somewhere”. I think she knows a place!
As for those poolside stretches, Matt says he “highly recommend[s]” everyone do them, “just not in a pool that isn’t yours”.
His favourite stretch, you ask? The downward dog, but with a dog that isn’t his.
Anyway, all this talk has me fancying a dip… anyone got a house without security cameras?
