Mystery surrounds sudden closure of Superbowl in Swansea

UPDATE: Superbowl in Swansea has now reopened. You can read more about it here.

A bowling alley in Swansea has suddenly closed - and it's not known if it will ever reopen to customers.

A padlock is currently on the door of Superbowl on York Street which launched in 2018.

There's also a notice on the door of the building.

Superbowl has said that the York Street site is not open on Monday, February 3 due to "circumstances beyond our control".

A statement issued by the bowling alley on its Facebook page said: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, Superbowl UK Swansea will not be open today.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We will keep you updated on tomorrow as soon as we can."

It is the second bowling venue in the city centre after the long-running Tenpin at Parc Tawe.

The entertainment site includes a state of the art 14-lane alley, as well as a soft play area, a 'ninja tag' assault course and a SEGA Prize Zone amusement arcade area.

It is situated in the City Gates complex, in the 25,500 sq ft unit last occupied by Aspers Casino back in 2012.

Superbowl UK already has sites in Cardiff, Newport and Merthyr.

WalesOnline has approached Superbowl UK for further comment.
