Mystery surrounds sighting of armed police as traffic is stopped on busy Nottingham road

A woman has spoken about the "surreal" moment she said she saw armed police speeding down a Nottingham road.

The incident reportedly occurred near Woodborough Road on Thursday, September 30.

The driver said it was like "something out of a movie" as police bikes, a van and a car all sped along the road and past traffic.

While bikes made sure traffic was stopped at two junctions, the van and cars then made their way along the road.

She told Nottinghamshire Live: "I was about to pull off the junction from Woodborough Road towards Victoria centre.

"I heard sirens so I checked all around and saw the lights coming from the right so I immediately halted.

"It was something out of a movie - it was surreal. The next thing a police bike stops the traffic, another bike overtakes and stops traffic at the other junction, then a car full of police with guns comes tearing around the corner.

"It was followed by a van full of police with guns and they had the windows down and you could clearly see the gun out the window. Then the van was followed by more police cars and bikes. The noise was incredible."

Another reader commented: "There were loads of police with blue lights on."

Nottinghamshire Police say there were no reported incidents near the area early on Thursday evening.

The woman suggested it could have been for a training exercise rather than an incident - the exact details of the police operation remain unknown.
