Bristol's Burger Bear restaurant appears 'permanently closed' less than a year after opening

During the past few years Bristol has staked a claim for the title of the UK's burger capital, with a host of new restaurants serving top notch meaty creations.

Since the turn of 2017 the city has welcomed the likes of Hubbox, Burger Theory, Asado, Honest Burgers, Dirty Burgerz, Squeezed and more.

But last year there were signs we could be reaching saturation point following the closure of Byron Burgers in March and Gourmet Burger Kitchen in December - both renowned chains with branches across the UK.

And it looks like another might have shut its doors, just one year after opening.

Burger Bear in Gloucester Road opened in July 2018 and the glowing reviews started pouring in, with Bristol Live's food critic Mark Taylor awarding it four stars.

The brand started out as a pop-up street food in various London pubs and markets, as well as a restaurant in Stoke Newington, but founder Tom Reaney is originally from Bristol.

The positive reviews kept on coming with many praising the range and quality of burgers on offer, but a status was posted on the restaurant's Facebook page on May 22 stating it had closed for refurbishment - after it had only been open for 10 months.

An update was posted on the status by the restaurant informing people it would reopen in the '2nd week of July'.

But it now looks like it might not be reopening at all, as Google is stating it is 'permanently closed'.

This has not been officially confirmed, however, and Bristol Live has contacted the restaurant for comment.
