Mystery surrounding wobbly pole that's leaving people confused

A mysteriously wobbly street pole left a dog walker so puzzled he posted it on social media to ask what was happening.

Neil Howells took the video in Grosvenor Road, New Brighton yesterday (Thursday).

He said although there was a mild breeze, it wasn't strong enough to cause the pole to shake so violently.

Neil can be heard on the video saying: "Wow... why's that doing that? It's mad innit.

"Absolutely no wind... there is no movement in the trees.,", before adding to a passer-by: "It's paranormal mate."

The Facebook post attracted more than 100 comments, most of them of a humorous nature.

However one man who said he was an engineer did offer a possible - albeit highly technical - explanation.

He said: "It's called eigenfrequency…. and it's the frequency at which a system tends to oscillate in the absence of any driving or damping force.

"It means the wind is making the post vibrate at its natural resonance frequency so the pole start to shake."
