Mystery surrounding dog found tied to tree in Co Down

An investigation is underway after a dog was found tied to a tree in Co Down.

The circumstances of how he was discovered in Annsborough near Castlewellan, remain a mystery, but the dog appears to be a healthy weight and has possibly been recently groomed.

A member of the public rescued him after the dog chewed through the lead that had attached him to the tree and he found his way onto a busy road.

He is now being looked after by Corran Kennels.

A spokesperson said: "He is understandably very scared. We don’t judge as we don’t know the circumstances, he is not chipped and we are wanting firstly to see if he has an owner.

"Thanks to our brilliant volunteer Cara for working with this boy today and getting him out for a walk once she gained his trust."
