Mystery over missing Lorraine Kelly on ITV show as Ranvir Singh steps in

ITV’s Lorraine Kelly was missing from this morning’s edition of the daytime show, with Ranvir Singh sitting in for her.

Lorraine, who hosts the morning show from Monday to Friday, didn't appear on ITV on Friday.

Instead, TV presenter Ranvir Singh introduced viewers from Lorraine’s armchair, but did not offer an explanation for Lorraine’s absence.

Guest host Ranvir said: "Good morning to you. I'm standing in for Lorraine today."

Ranvir has previously taken on Lorraine’s role during half terms, when Lorraine takes a break to spend time with her family.

Lorraine viewers were quick to question where the regular host was, but many took to Twitter to praise Ranvir.

One Twitter user wrote: "Where is Lorraine?", while others speculated on her whereabouts at the beginning of the ITV show.

Many viewers expressed their happiness at seeing Ranvir on Friday’s show.

One social media user wrote: “Wow you look incredible this morning on Lorraine,” as several tweets flooded Ranvir’s Twitter feed.

Another said: "Well there's an image to warm up a cold Friday morning @ranvir01."

Lorraine's absence comes after her programme was handed a warning by Ofcom after comments about Covid sparked 4,000 complaints.

The broadcasting watchdog says it won't be investigating the remarks made on Lorraine, but that a warning has been issued to them.

Complaints were launched last year after Dr Hilary Jones featured on the morning TV show to discuss the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

During his time on the segment, the 68-year-old medical professional and 62-year-old Lorraine claimed that '90% of hospitalised Covid patients were unvaccinated'.

A spokesperson said: "This programme incorrectly referenced the proportion of unvaccinated Covid-19 patients in hospital.

"We have told ITV that greater care should be taken by trusted medical experts when presenting facts and figures on public health issues.

"However, given official statistics and research have consistently shown that vaccination against Covid-19 offers greater protection against serious health consequences, we do not consider that the error was sufficient to materially mislead viewers on this main point of discussion."

That statistic was subsequently found to be false – prompting almost 4,000 people to complain to Ofcom.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
