Mystery surrounds why a huge Boeing 727 aeroplane as seen flying low over the Humber before circling above parts of East Yorkshire.
The jet is owned by Oil Spill Response and was spotted ducking below 4,000ft, flying close to Hull and the Humber Bridge before making repeated passes over Holderness , including Withernsea.
It was also seen passing over the North East Lincolnshire towns of Grimsby and Cleethorpes, Hull Live reports.
Flightradar24.com, a website which tracks aviation movement, claim the aircraft took off from Doncaster during the early part of Wednesday afternoon before immediately heading for the Humber.
But it's not clear whether the plane is assisting with an incident or taking part in training.
Oil Spill Response claims it is “the largest international industry-funded cooperative which exists to respond to oil spills wherever in the world they may occur”.
The plane itself is used to spray oil slicks with dispersal fluid which flows from tanks under its wings. It is understood to be reaching speeds of 265mph.
A number of villages including Withernsea, Patrington, Tunstall and Ottringham are on the flight path.
One witness said: “You could see it flying very slowly across Grimsby. It was really unusual as it looked like a passenger plane but you never usually have them fly so low and slow across the town.
"I wondered what was going on.”
