Mystery over bizarre Rangers and Celtic cigarette bins spotted on Princes Street

People have been left scratching their heads after bizarre Rangers and Celtic cigarette bins appeared on Edinburgh's Princes Street.

An image of two glass jars – one with the Rangers badge and the other with the Celtic logo – was posted on social media by Fiona Kirkwood on Tuesday. Written on a black platform beneath the bins is "pick a team" and "stub it out".

As reported by the Daily Record, Stub it Out is a nationwide anti-smoking campaign.

Fiona Kirkwod tweeted: "Just wondering why this on Princes Street? No relevance to Edinburgh give we have our own football teams here."

However those at the City of Edinburgh Council took to social media after seeing the post to claim that it wasn't theirs and they are trying to find out more about it.

They said: "Hi Fiona, thanks for flagging this. It isn't ours and we're investigating."

One Twitter user posted: "Get that tae f*** immediately".

Another added: "It's a shocker – let us know who did put it up?"

That being said, not everybody was overly fussed.

One person commented: "It's just cigarette bins with stickers on them."
