Mystery of tiny house between two alleyways on Birkenhead street

A tiny house that's small enough to fit in the space between two alleyways has left locals stumped over its mysterious history.

The property, which is on Westbourne Road in Birkenhead, barely looks tall enough to stand up in and from the road it appears to consist of little more than one small room.

Located half way down the street, number 64 is just a short walk from Oxton Village in one direction and Birkenhead Park in the other.

Its quirky position on the road stands out in between the other more modern homes that line the rest of the street.

The property is nestled in the gap between two alleyways, with its pitched roof and red brick appearance offering a glimpse back to another era.

With just a front door and tiny single window to the front of the property, it doesn't appear to have any other windows on either side.

It's unclear whether the tiny house is currently used as a residential premises or used to form part of a larger property in the area.

The pint size property also doesn't appear on any recent sales listings for websites like RightMove or Zoopla, offering little insight into its purpose.

The unusual property has attracted questions from residents eager to find out more about its history in Birkenhead.

Sharing a photo of the tiny house to a community Facebook group, one resident said: "Just driven past this house - there must be a story to this one?!"

Members of the group offered their theories, with one person suggestion it may have formerly been the gatehouse of a larger property on Westbourne Road.

Someone else suggested the property could have been an old outhouse - but the structure, front door and pitched roof might make this unlikely.
