People across Liverpool reported hearing mysterious loud bangs but were left baffled by the noises.
Shortly after 10pm on Monday night, residents in South Liverpool took to social media to say they had heard a series of bangs coming for many different directions.
Those who heard it described the noises as "bizarre" and said they went on for several minutes but they weren't sure what caused it.
Other people said the bangs sounded like fireworks but they were unable to see any displays of this in the sky over their homes.
On Twitter, people asked their followers if anyone else had heard it and whether there was an explanation.
User Jos even tweeted a video of the noises to help describe them.

"Hopefully not flares signalling something bad."
